Six with Six – Kala Gare is Anne Boleyn

BEHEADED.

Six The Musical is taking the world by storm. Part pop concert and part musical, the show tells the stories of Henry VIII’s wives, and sides of the story that most are not familiar with.

Ahead of the show’s opening, I’m asking SIX questions to all SIX queens.

Today’s queen is Kala Gare, who is playing Anne Boleyn. Kala was most recently seen as Alice Murphy in Bright Star (Pursued By Bear). Other credits include Alice in Thoroughly Modern Millie (The Production Company), Sophie De Palma in Terence McNelly’s Masterclass (Andrew Kay Productions), and Maureen in Rent (Chapel Off Chapel).

Can you tell me a bit about your history with performing?

I grew up in a very musical family so the idea of performing, and what it is, to me was something I understood from a very young age. I’ve always loved it and as I grew more interested in what I was actually singing, the love for telling stories and sharing those experiences also grew.

What excites you the most about Six?

So much! I’m so keen to be part of a girl band, and to feel and share the power of women; very strong women!

Do you have anything in common with your Queen?

In the show she’s quite a cheek – which I think I could potentially relate to.

What’s one thing that people may not know about you?

My middle name is Anne!

Why do you think people love Six so much?

It is so inclusive, and has a huge heart at its centre.

What did you know about King Henry VIII and his wives before starting on Six?

Not much at all. I knew the surface level info about him being a tyrant and Anne being the “Other Woman”, but I am loving the research aspect, and learning all the intricacies and human nature of these people!

Six The Musical opens at the Sydney Opera House in January, before touring to Melbourne and Adelaide.
