Q. What is your show about, and how did it come into being?

A. It’s a showcase of 5 of the most high visibility comedy apprentices of Australia. The show has been hand picked by the festival.

Q. What makes MICF different from other festivals you’ve been in?

A. For starters, it’s in Melbourne.

Q. Who are your not-to-be-missed acts at this year’s festival?

A. Anne Edmonds, Aunty Donna, Andy Mathews and Matt Stewart, David Quirlk, Jay Morrisey and Danielle Walker, True Australian Patriots, Matt Ford, Laura Dunemann, Ben Russell and Xavier Michelides

Q. What do you believe is the purpose of comedy?

A. Make people laugh/Speak truth to power/Bully the weak

Q. Can the reaction of your audience make or break your show?

A. Yes, if they laugh the show is funnier. If they don’t laugh then it’s not good.

Q.What’s the best and worst review you’ve ever received?

A. It’s not for me to say I’m great; It’s for reviewers.

Q. Do you have any unforgettable over-zealous fan experiences or heckles?

A. No, people are very polite. Comedy makes me believe in the general public.

Q. Is there an act you would love to heckle?

A. The other acts in Comedy Zone.

Q. What would you put in a survival pack for MICF performers or audiences?

A. Snacks. And a sense of wonder!

Q. Do you have plans for your show beyond MICF?

A. The comedy festival doesn’t trust me to make plans.

Q. Do you prefer to write and perform under pressure, or in a relaxed environment?

A. It depends on the amount of pressure.

Q. Do you have any stage superstitions?

A. If I don’t put a cat in the bin then I believe the show will be no good.

Maddi Ostapiw

Maddi is a performer who has been too scared to stand in the spotlight for the last few years, so she channels her need for love and appreciation into writing about the theatre instead. An energetic consumer of musical theatre, she is currently earning a degree in journalism and teaches voice in her small hometown. Maddi is normally covered in cat fur, has an opinion on everything, and in the words of Lin-Manuel Miranda, is not throwing away her shot.
