Over the years, several acclaimed movies have found new life on Broadway and West End stages, transforming into popular musicals. These adaptations, ranging from family fantasies like ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’ to dramatic tales like ‘Ghost,’ have garnered critical acclaim and numerous awards, demonstrating the lasting impact and popularity of their cinematic originals.

Movies like ‘Matilda,’ ‘Waitress,’ and ‘Mean Girls’ have inspired musicals acclaimed globally, showing the intricate process of adapting screen stories to the stage. These musicals face the challenge of staying true to their source material while adding a unique theatrical twist.

Charlie and the Chocolate Factory (2013) Adapting Roald Dahl’s classic tale, previously brought to life by Gene Wilder and Johnny Depp, the musical premiered in the West End in 2013. Featuring iconic songs like “Pure Imagination,” it won two Laurence Olivier Awards for its production and lighting design.
