A Quick Chat With Rhys Morgan

We catch up with Rhys Morgan, also knows as Spanky – a darling of the London Cabaret Scene  and upcoming performer at the 2012 Melbourne Cabaret Festival.

Rhys, er, Spanky will be performing at Chapel Off Chapel’s The Loft this Thursday 19 – Saturday 20 July in NASTY!, a drag comedy-cabaret in which he plays the immortal demi goddess Candice McQueen!

We ask Rhys/Spanky/Candice our 20 Questions!

 

1. As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I could never decide but oscillated between lawyer, doctor or Sister Scott from the Young Doctors.

2. Who is the most important person in the world to you?
My Nana. I spent a huge amount of time with her growing up. And Madonna.

3. What animal best represents you and why?
A pack horse. Ive got this really odd built in stamina. I kind of have to be told to rest.

4. If you were a contestant on Deal or No Deal, how much would you need to be on offer before you walked away?
I’d deal on about 5 to 10 k

5. What was the first piece of theatre/film/TV you ever appeared in and how old were you?
Toby in The Man in Grey. A rengency romance thriller. I was a blackamoor page. They actually blacked me up! Well, it was NZ in the 70s. I was 5.

6. Windows or MAC?
Either. I have a MAC but can run around Windows. I have a Certificate in Proficiency in Word form London College.

7. Favourite food?
Laksa

8. Who is the actor you would most like to work alongside?
Michelle Williams or Paul Rudd.

9. What five songs would be the first you put a mix tape?

10. What is the best thing about theatre in Australia?
The diversity of voices that are represented, particularly in Melbourne.

11. What’s the worst thing about theatre in Australia?
I haven’t seen nearly enough.

12. Name one moment when you looked around, breathed happily and felt content.
Walking around the grounds of Blenheim Palace in the landscape designed by Capability Brown.

13. Where is the most interesting place you have travelled?
Hull in the North of England. Fairly grim city for the opening of the BBC there.

14. Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?
Giles Deacon and Katie Grand

15. Most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you onstage?
I was wearing a bikini and dancing when a lady patron pulled by bottoms down in front of an audience.

16. What’s your life motto?
I will not  regret the past nor wish to shut the door on it.

17. What’s your favourite post-show snack?
Chicken Crimpy Shapes

18. What’s your biggest phobia?
Mess.

19. What is the worst date you’ve ever had?
I was invited to this guys house for dinner and he ordered pizza express and garlic bread.

 20. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Writing and performing my own work on a more international platform.
