Music theatre star Erin Hasan has a soprano voice to melt the hardest of hearts. Currently appearing in Love Never Dies, covering the role of Christine, she has just completed her first solo album. (Available soon on iTunes!)
Erin made her professional music theatre debut as Glinda standby in the Australian premiere production of Wicked – a role she performed over 150 times.
We catch up with Erin to ask her our 20 Questions:
As a child, what did you want to be when you grew up?
A singer – but when I was a kid I used to say “I want to be a singer like Barbie”. Funny, now I can’t sing pop for the life of me!
Who is the most important person in the world to you?
My amazing boyfriend Liam McIntyre, and my family.
What animal best represents you and why?
Oooh! I’ve never really thought about that – probably a pomeranian. They are little and have a loud, high voice.
If you were a contestant on Deal or No Deal, how much would you need to be on offer before you walked away?
$25,000. I’m not greedy.
What was the first piece of theatre/film/TV you ever appeared in and how old were you?
Playing Laurey in my high school production of Oklahoma! That’s when I knew I wanted to do this for a living.
Windows or MAC?
MAC
Favourite food?
Mexican!
Who is the actor you would most like to work alongside?
Meryl Streep.
What five songs would be the first you put a mix tape?
What is the best thing about theatre in Australia?
How small the community is, and how familiar you become with the people in the industry.
What’s the worst thing about theatre in Australia?
A large majority of shows are pre-cast!
Name one moment when you looked around, breathed happily and felt content.
My final performance as Glinda in Wicked.
Where is the most interesting place you have travelled?
It’s a tie between Rome and New York:
Rome because it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever been, and the food there is out. of. control.
New York… well I love the buzz in the air, and it’s probably the most liveable place (aside from home) that I’ve visited.
Who is the most famous person you’ve ever met?
Xena, Warrior Princess! aka Lucy Lawless
Most embarrassing thing that’s ever happened to you onstage?
Again, a tie between:
1. Singing Somewhere Over the Rainbow at the Rod Laver Arena in front of thousands of people, dressed as Dorothy, with a live dog who upstaged me by pissing himself during the famous refrain. Brilliant.
2. The time I jumped so far OVER the Popular bed in Wicked which Glinda is meant to land ON. I took the bed sheets off with me, and had to get all the linen back on the bed, sing the final note and hit my final pose (gracefully) whilst trying not to laugh. Awkward.
What’s your life motto?
Be happy.
What’s your favourite post-show snack?
Snickers chocolate bar.
What’s your biggest phobia?
Getting jammed between elevator doors.
What is the worst date you’ve ever had?
On my one year anniversary with my boyfriend, in Fiji, we set out to have a romantic picnic on a sandbar. Picturesque! But the tide turned quickly and the sandbar disappeared and all our food was covered in salty water. No one came to help for an hour, and we were stranded in the middle of the ocean.
