SUMMARY:The Mousetrap
DESCRIPTION:The Mousetrap set to mystify Australian Audiences. \nTo celebrate its Platinum (70th) jubilee this year the world’s longest-running play\, Agatha Christie’s The Mousetrap\, is coming to Australia. Opening at Sydney’s Theatre Royal in October\, it will be directed by Australian theatre icon Robyn Nevin and produced by John Frost for Crossroads Live Australia. This thrilling West End production is THE genre-defining murder mystery from the best-selling novelist of all time … case closed! \nWe’re so excited to present a new production of this enduring and much-loved murder mystery to Australian audiences\, directed by Robyn Nevin\,” said John Frost. “With new films and television mini-series based on her books\, there has been a resurgence of interest in Agatha Christie’s thrillers\, and the novels are selling more than ever. What better time to bring The Mousetrap to Australia as it celebrates its 70th anniversary. Will you solve the mystery and pick the murderer? \nThe Mousetrap had its world premiere on 6 October 1952 at the Theatre Royal\, Nottingham. After a brief tour\, it opened in London’s West End on 25 November 1952 at the Ambassadors Theatre\, where it ran until 23 March 1974. It immediately transferred to the larger St Martin’s Theatre next door\, where it continues to this day. \nThe longest-running West End show\, it has by far the longest run of any play anywhere in the world\, with over 28\,500th performances so far. The play has a twist ending\, which the audience are traditionally asked not to reveal after leaving the theatre. \nAgatha Christie originally wrote the story as a short radio play entitled Three Blind Mice\, which was broadcast in 1947 as a birthday present for Queen Mary. She eventually adapted the work into a short story before again rewriting it for the stage as The Mousetrap. Ironically\, Christie did not expect the play to run for more than a few months and stipulated that no film of The Mousetrap be made until at least six months after the West End Production closed. 70 years on\, as the show continues its historic London run\, a film adaptation looks unlikely at this stage. \n \n \n

SUMMARY:2:22 A Ghost Story
DESCRIPTION:This award-winning supernatural thriller continues its phenomenal West End run – now playing to packed houses at the Apollo Theatre\, Shaftesbury Ave\, starring Sophia Bush\, Ricky Champ\, Clifford Samuel and Jaime Winstone. \nFollowing four record-breaking seasons at the Noël Coward\, Gielgud\, Criterion and The Lyric Theatres\, this critically acclaimed new play has become London’s must-see theatre event. \n2:22- A Ghost Story is written by award-winning writer Danny Robins\, creator of the hit BBC podcast The Battersea Poltergeist\, and is directed by Matthew Dunster. Brilliantly funny and intriguing; 2:22 A Ghost Story is an adrenaline-filled night where secrets emerge and ghosts may or may not appear. What do you believe? And do you dare discover the truth? \nJenny believes her new home is haunted\, but her husband Sam isn’t having any of it. They argue with their first dinner guests\, old friend Lauren and new partner Ben. Can the dead really walk again? Belief and scepticism clash\, but something feels strange and frightening\, and that something is getting closer. So they’re going to stay up until 2:22….and then they’ll know. \nThe Australian premiere production of 2:22 – A Ghost Story\, has an all star cast with Australian actor and supermodel Gemma Ward taking on the role of ‘Jenny’ and stage and screen star Remy Hii as ‘Sam’\, joining Daniel MacPherson as ‘Ben’ and Ruby Rose as ‘Lauren’.  \n  \n\n  \nTogether\, this dynamic and eclectic cast will deliver this live-action thriller in its Australian premiere production\, in a stage event not to be missed. Audiences will be able to get up close and personal with the high-profile cast at Melbourne’s Her Majesty’s Theatre. \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Hamlet
DESCRIPTION:Tragedy Has A Power Of Its Own.  \nAVID Theatre & Ardour Theatre present William Shakespeare’s masterpiece The Tragedy of HAMLET\, Prince of Denmark\, a modern re-telling of one of the most influential and well-known plays in history. HAMLET will be a multi-sensory theatre experience played under the dreamlike glow of candlelight and neon in a brutally minimalist\, awe-inspiring performance space; Mycelium Studios\, East Brunswick.  \n A court in turmoil. A family fractured. Scandal\, surveillance and fake news; welcome to the fast and furious arena sport that is Hamlet!   \n Is it a thrilling ghost story? An exuberant romp about theatre and actors? A harrowing dissection of an abusive relationship? An introspective meditation on our very existence?  A black comedy about the nature of mortality? Is it a drama of revenge and betrayal? Or is it an adventure story about pirates? It’s all of these things. Avid Theatre and Ardour Productions have assembled a stellar creative team who have been tasked with the wonderful challenge; to wrestle these seemingly disparate elements into one whole.   \n  \n\n  \n No stranger to the text\, having played the title role in 1999 for Adelaide’s Independent Theatre\, Director Nicholas Opolski brings a vigorous and muscular intent to this interpretation. “We watch HAMLET because at times we have felt like him\, conflicted in our motives\, unsure of our next step. Victim\, yes\, but guilty ourselves. Hamlet struggles to understand his place in a confused world\, as we sometimes do\, but shows us how\, in spite of everything\, it is possible to find peace of mind.” says Opolski.  \n Michael Fenemore (The Elephant Man\, Macbeth\, A Streetcar Named Desire) will play HAMLET\, Charlee Liddell as Ophelia\, Alayne Wright (Twelfth Night\, A Midsummer Night’s Dream) and Peter O’Brien are the Danish royals Gertrude and Claudius\, with Anthony Edward (Romeo & Juliet) as the clownish Polonius.  \n This HAMLET promises to be a visceral\, emotional and existential rollercoaster!  \n  \n \n

SUMMARY:Beauty And The Beast
DESCRIPTION:Sydney audiences and critics alike are being wowed by Disney’s Beauty and the Beast at the Capitol Theatre. Produced by Disney Theatrical Productions (Aladdin\, The Lion King\, Mary Poppins\, Frozen) this new production received 5 stars from The Guardian\, Time Out Sydney\, Sydney Arts Guide and the Daily Telegraph\, whose review described it as “a remarkable reimagination”. New performances through to 24 December 2023 have just been released. \nWith fabulous new sets\, costumes and cutting-edge technology\, the show-stopping production number ‘Be Our Guest’ also includes a brand-new tap finale featuring Lumiere\, Belle\, and all the enchanted objects of the castle. This spectacular number even saw the audience on its feet for a thunderous mid-show standing ovation on Opening Night! \n\n  \n \n  \nAbout Disney’s Beauty and the Beast \nBased on the 1991 film – the first animated feature ever nominated for an Academy Award for Best Picture – Beauty and the Beast opened on Broadway in April 1994 and garnered nine Tony nominations and one win. It played for more than 13 years on Broadway (before closing in 2007) and remains to this day one of the top 10 longest running shows in Broadway history. The 2017 live-action retelling of the animated classic starring Emma Watson quickly became the highest grossing live action film musical of all time\, a record beaten only by The Lion King live-action release in 2019. \nThe original Australian production of Beauty and the Beast opened in Melbourne at the Princess Theatre in 1995 starring Rachel Beck in the role of Belle\, Michael Cormick as the Beast\, a young Hugh Jackman as Gaston\, and the late Bert Newton as Cogsworth. The production played for over two years across Melbourne and Sydney and won the 1996 ARIA Award for Best Australian Soundtrack/Cast/Show Release. \nThe structure and tone of the story and score – as conceived for the 1991 film by its executive producer and lyricist Howard Ashman with a continued evolution for the Broadway adaptation three years later – made Disney history. Only once before – in Menken and Ashman’s previous film musical The Little Mermaid – had a Disney film been structured like a stage musical where the songs are integral to plot and characterisation rather than only ornamental or digressions. This Menken/Ashman innovation is credited with the 1990’s Disney animation renaissance that went on to create such film classics as Aladdin\, The Lion King and Hunchback of Notre Dame and helped re-introduce the book musical form to popular culture. \nThis new stage production of Beauty retains the lush period sound of the Oscar-winning and Tony® award nominated score – which brought classics including Be Our Guest and Beauty and the Beast\, as well as Change in Me\, added to the musical production in 1998 and retained thereafter. New dance arrangements by David Chase\, have allowed original choreographer Matt West to re-visit his work. Long-time Menken collaborators Michael Kosarin and Danny Troob are musical supervisor/vocal arranger and orchestrator\, respectively. \nCompleting the design team\, Tony® award winner John Shivers is sound designer\, Darryl Maloney is the video and projections designer\, and David H. Lawrence is hair designer. Jim Steinmeyer is the illusions designer\, as he was on the original 1994 production. \nBeauty and the Beast will be produced in Australia by The Walt Disney Company and Disney Theatrical Productions\, under the supervision of Thomas Schumacher. \nThe Australian premiere of Disney’s Beauty and the Beast is proudly supported by the NSW Government through its tourism and major events agency Destination NSW. \nFor more information please visit www.beautyandthebeastmusical.com.au \n
