Who wants Beetlejuice: The Musical to come to Australia?

Beetlejuice: The Musical is a stage adaptation of the 1988 film of the same name. The show features music and lyrics by Eddie Perfect, and a book by Scott Brown and Anthony King. The musical made its world premiere at the National Theatre in Washington, D.C. in 2018, and later transferred to Broadway in April 2019. The show was directed by Alex Timbers, with choreography by Connor Gallagher.

The musical follows the story of the ghost couple, Barbara and Adam Maitland, who are trying to scare away the new inhabitants of their home, the Deetz family. When their efforts fail, they seek the help of Beetlejuice, a “bio-exorcist” ghost who promises to help them get rid of the living. However, Beetlejuice has his own agenda and things quickly spiral out of control.

The musical features an eclectic score that combines rock, funk, and R&B styles, and a high-energy choreography that adds to the show’s quirky and irreverent spirit. The musical was well-received by critics, who praised the show’s inventive staging, catchy music, and the performances of the cast, particularly Alex Brightman in the role of Beetlejuice.

The rights for Beetlejuice: The Musical are held by Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures, which is a division of Warner Bros. Entertainment that specializes in producing and developing stage adaptations of the studio’s properties. Warner Bros. Theatre Ventures has been behind several successful musicals, such as Elf: The Musical, which was based on the 2003 film of the same name, and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory: The New Musical, which was based on the classic Roald Dahl novel.

  • OMG I think I would literally die!! This is my obsession, and my life right now - I so badly want to see and experience this musical! Who can we campaign to get this produced in Australia?!?

  • Yes please, very much so, I have never wanted to see a broadway musical so much as I do now after watching snippets of the musical on youtube. Those sets, costumes, and performers are all amazing! I would fly to America if I could afford to go see it there. Very much want.

  • The show recently closed on Broadway, and it would be a sure fire hit in Australia given most people know the film, the Score is by Eddie Perfect - surely this is a no-brainer!! I'll be there opening night!

  • It's been my dream to see this show ever since I learnt it existed. If it came to Australia and I could see it, it would probably be the highlight of my life.
