Suns of Son brings Memphis rock and roll to the stage
Sons of Sun – the Sam Phillips Story is a rock and roll play about Sun Records, Memphis, and the legends that started out there. After premiering at the Sydney Fringe last year, it’s back in the city with a residency at the Bridge Hotel in Rozelle from August to November and a one night return to Lizotte’s in Dee Why.

Told through the eyes of Sun’s founder Sam Phillips and his assistant Marion Keisker (and a host of famous musicians), the show features a three piece live band fronted by John Kennedy. Through the play thirty-five songs are played, including hits from Elvis, Johnny Cash, Carl Perkins, Jerry Lee Lewis, and Roy Orbison.
Directed by acclaimed director Neil Gooding, Sons of Sun comes from the music of Kennedy, who recorded a 2011 album of Sun Records music. Award-winning playwright Kieran Carroll wrote the script to accompany Kennedy’s music, and the show is a blended presentation of rock and roll theatre that is in turns heartbreaking and compelling.
Sons of Sun will play select Saturday nights in August, September, and October, and Friday nights in November. To secure bookings, search for Sons of Sun on moshtix.com.au and ticketek.com.au.
