Further Sunderland cancellation adds to BURLESQUE THE MUSICAL tour delays

BURLESQUE THE MUSICAL has encountered another reported cancellation at Sunderland Empire, extending a UK tour launch that has moved repeatedly since its original July date. Carl Woodward reported that the performance scheduled for 13 August 2026 was cancelled after Sunderland had already become the tour’s replacement opening city. ATG continues to advertise onward engagements, while Variety reports that ATG Entertainment says the production is set to continue.

The sequence began with an opening planned for Woking’s New Victoria Theatre on 25 July 2026. In July, that engagement was rescheduled for 3 to 7 November and Sunderland was announced as the new starting point, with performances from 6 to 22 August. A later Ents24 listing moved the Sunderland start again to 13 August, creating a second delay before the tour could open.

Woodward’s report on 13 August said that day’s performance had also been cancelled and the first show moved to 14 August. Indexed ATG pages from the period did not tell a consistent story, with different pages displaying 13 and 14 August starts. The records establish further schedule instability, but not a complete cancellation count or which Sunderland performances later took place.

ATG’s current central tour page still lists Sunderland through 22 August. The next advertised engagement is at the Regent Theatre in Stoke-on-Trent from 25 to 29 August, followed by further ATG-booked dates through 15 May 2027. The page shows 12 venues and ends at New Wimbledon Theatre. Earlier reporting described a 24-venue itinerary ending at Canterbury’s Marlowe Theatre on 29 May 2027. That mismatch may reflect partial ticketing inventory, so it neither supplies a definitive itinerary nor shows that omitted stops have been cancelled. A live listing also cannot confirm that every advertised performance will proceed.

Variety has reported ATG’s position that the production will continue. A publicly accessible copy of ATG’s statement was not available in the reviewed sources, so its precise wording and reach remain unconfirmed. On the available evidence, that response should not be treated as a guarantee covering every date on the published schedule.

The tour disruption sits alongside a separate setback for the musical’s London return. BURLESQUE THE MUSICAL was due to begin a season at The Arts at Marble Arch on 12 September 2026 and run until 31 January 2027. That season was postponed to 2027, but no replacement West End venue or revised dates have been confirmed.

For affected ticket holders, the remaining gap is practical as well as chronological. No verified details were available for refunds, exchanges, travel losses or direct customer notifications connected with the latest cancellation. The broad Sunderland date range still visible online cannot establish the status of an individual performance or the arrangements attached to a cancelled booking.

The confirmed evidence establishes a sequence of schedule changes, not their cause. No financial or workforce explanation for the disruption has been substantiated by the verified material. Earlier references to technical requirements came from the production or communications with ticket holders and cannot independently explain every later cancellation.
