Barn Theatre Completes 2026 Season with MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET Return and THE KING’S SPEECH Revival
The Barn Theatre in Cirencester has unveiled the final productions that will complete its 2026 Built by Barn season, adding two major titles to the programme and rounding out a year that blends musical spectacle with dramatic storytelling.
The newly announced productions include the return of the hit jukebox musical MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET and a revival of David Seidler’s acclaimed stage adaptation of THE KING’S SPEECH. Together, the pair join a previously announced lineup of productions that already includes MEN BEHAVING BADLY, HONK!, DOUBLE DOUBLE and YES, PRIME MINISTER, forming a diverse season designed to appeal to a wide range of theatre audiences.
The announcement marks the completion of the theatre’s full 2026 programming and reflects the venue’s continued ambition to combine popular entertainment with compelling dramatic works.
One of the highlights of the season will be the return of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, the electrifying musical inspired by a legendary moment in rock and roll history. The show tells the story of the famous 1956 recording session at Sun Records in Memphis, where four of the most influential figures in early rock music came together for an unforgettable jam session.
During that historic gathering, Elvis Presley, Johnny Cash, Jerry Lee Lewis and Carl Perkins found themselves in the studio at the same time, resulting in an impromptu recording session that would later become one of the most iconic moments in popular music lore. The musical dramatizes that meeting, weaving together the personal tensions, ambitions and creative sparks between the artists while showcasing many of the songs that helped define an era.
The Barn Theatre previously staged the show in 2022 to strong audience response, and the new production aims to bring the story back with fresh energy. The upcoming staging will once again be directed by Jonathan O’Boyle and promises a bigger and more dynamic interpretation of the musical’s famous story.
Performances of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET will run from 15 June to 22 August, with the production’s press night scheduled for 18 June. With its rock and roll soundtrack and fast paced storytelling, the show is expected to serve as the theatre’s major summer offering.
Completing the season in the autumn will be a revival of THE KING’S SPEECH, the stage adaptation of the Oscar winning film that brought the story of King George VI’s speech therapist to international attention. Written by David Seidler, the play explores the relationship between Prince Albert, known as Bertie, and Lionel Logue, the unconventional speech therapist who helped him overcome a debilitating stammer.
Set against the looming threat of the Second World War, the story follows Bertie as he prepares to ascend to the throne and confront the demands of leadership during a period of global crisis. The play examines both the personal vulnerability of the future monarch and the remarkable partnership that helped him find his voice at a moment when the nation needed reassurance and unity.
The production will run from 9 October to 7 November, with a press night scheduled for 13 October. Casting and creative teams for both productions are expected to be announced at a later date.
Barn Theatre CEO and artistic director Iwan Lewis expressed enthusiasm about the additions, noting that the productions help complete a season built around memorable live theatre experiences.
Speaking about the return of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET, Lewis described the show as an irresistible piece of musical storytelling that celebrates one of the most legendary jam sessions in rock and roll history. The theatre’s earlier production proved highly popular with audiences, and the new version aims to build on that success with an even more ambitious staging.
He also highlighted THE KING’S SPEECH as a powerful dramatic counterpart to the season’s musical offerings. The story, which centres on the friendship between Bertie and Logue, explores themes of leadership, resilience and the courage required to confront personal limitations in the face of public responsibility.
Together, the lineup reflects the theatre’s ongoing commitment to producing a varied programme that balances comedy, drama, music and nostalgia while maintaining a focus on high quality productions created for its Cirencester audience.
Tickets for the newly announced productions will first be available to members from 4 March, before going on general sale from 6 March. Members are also offered the opportunity to purchase tickets for the entire six show season at the price of five, providing an incentive for audiences to experience the full year of programming.
With its blend of crowd pleasing musical entertainment and thoughtful drama, the Barn Theatre’s completed 2026 season promises a year of engaging theatre that celebrates both beloved stories and unforgettable moments in history.
