NBC Announces One-Night WICKED Spectacular Ahead of Film Sequel

NBC has added a fresh dose of emerald-hued anticipation to the calendar, confirming a one-night-only WICKED special for 21 November—just weeks before Wicked: For Good lands in cinemas.

Broadcast live from Los Angeles’ Peacock Theater and streamed on Peacock the following day, the event will reunite the film’s stars Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande with co-stars including Jonathan Bailey. Under the direction of Wickedfilmmaker Jon M. Chu, the cast will deliver numbers from last year’s Oscar-winning movie and tease new material from the forthcoming sequel.

The announcement came during NBCUniversal’s annual Upfront presentation at Radio City Music Hall, where Chu outlined plans for the special and hinted at “surprise” guest appearances. In addition to musical performances, the broadcast is expected to offer first-look footage and behind-the-scenes insights into the second instalment, due in cinemas later in November.

Released in November 2024, Wicked earned ten Academy Award nominations and secured two wins before becoming a top-streamed title on Peacock. Wicked: For Good continues the Oz-set saga, picking up the story of Elphaba and Glinda as political tensions in the Emerald City reach breaking point.

With the stage musical still one of Broadway’s highest-grossing shows, NBC’s prime-time showcase taps into a ready-made global fan base while fuelling momentum for the sequel’s big-screen debut. Ticket pre-sales for Wicked: For Goodopen later this year.
