THE PLAY THAT GOES WRONG announces cast!
The smash-hit comedy The Play That Goes Wrong is set to return to Australia and New Zealand in 2025, celebrating its 10th anniversary with a brand-new cast. The Olivier and Tony Award-winning production, known for its side-splitting chaos and perfectly timed mishaps, will kick off its tour in Wellington this April before making its way across New Zealand and Australia.
Leading the cast is Jonathan Martin as Chris Bean, the director of the Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society, who also takes on the role of Inspector Carter in the ill-fated murder mystery. Brodie Masini stars as Jonathan Harris, the unfortunate actor tasked with playing Charles Haversham, the supposed murder victim who struggles to stay “dead.”
Joe Kosky portrays Robert Grove, an actor with grand ambitions who brings his own flair to Thomas Colleymoore, Charles’ loyal friend. Meanwhile, Tom Hayward takes on the role of Dennis Tyde, whose portrayal of Perkins the butler is hindered by his struggles with pronunciation.
Adding to the chaos is Stephanie Astrid John as Sandra Wilkinson, an actress determined to shine as Florence Colleymoore, despite the production’s many mishaps. Sebastian Pitruzzello plays Max Bennett, the enthusiastic but easily distracted performer responsible for Cecil Haversham/Arthur the Gardener.
Behind the scenes (and sometimes unwillingly in front of them) is Eds Eramiha as Trevor Watson, the exasperated lighting and sound operator, and Olivia Charalambous as Annie Twilloil, the stage manager who finds herself unexpectedly thrown into the action. Jack Buchanan, Anthony Craig, and Kira Josephson round out the cast as the fabulous understudies.
First premiering in London’s West End before conquering Broadway and beyond, The Play That Goes Wrong follows the ambitious but accident-prone Cornley Polytechnic Drama Society as they attempt to stage a 1920s murder mystery. From collapsing sets to forgotten lines and misplaced props, the production embraces theatrical disaster at its finest, delivering an evening of relentless laughter.
