Star-Studded Broadway Season Ahead: Major Celebrities Take Centre Stage

The 2024-2025 Broadway season promises to be a spectacular showcase of talent, featuring some of the most renowned stars from stage and screen. Among the notable names gracing the Great White Way are George Clooney, Denzel Washington, Robert Downey Jr., and many others, bringing their exceptional talent to New York City.

Robert Downey Jr. will make his Broadway debut in Ayad Akhtar’s new play ‘McNeal,’ while Denzel Washington and George Clooney also make highly anticipated appearances. Leading ladies such as Audra McDonald and Sutton Foster return to Broadway, alongside Nicole Scherzinger’s debut in the revival of ‘Sunset Boulevard.’

Mia Farrow and Patti LuPone star in ‘The Roommate,’ a new comedy play, set to begin previews on August 29 at Booth Theatre. Directed by Jack O’Brien, the one-act play explores the complexities of identity and morality through the lives of two women navigating their first roommate experience.

Sutton Foster and Michael Urie will lead the revival of the beloved musical ‘Once Upon a Mattress.’ Directed by Tony nominee Lear deBessonet, this production will begin previews on July 31 at the Hudson Theatre, promising a delightful adaptation of Hans Christian Andersen’s ‘The Princess and the Pea.’

The season also features Darren Criss in the new musical ‘Maybe Happy Ending,’ which follows two robots who form an unexpected friendship. Directed by Tony winner Michael Arden, the show begins previews on September 18 at Belasco Theatre.

Additionally, Katie Holmes, Jim Parsons, and Zoey Deutch will star in the latest revival of Thornton Wilder’s ‘Our Town,’ beginning previews on September 17 at the Ethel Barrymore Theatre. This Pulitzer Prize-winning play explores everyday life in a small New Hampshire village.

Not to be missed, Kit Connor and Rachel Zegler will make their Broadway debuts in a new production of William Shakespeare’s ‘Romeo & Juliet,’ directed by Tony winner Sam Gold. Previews begin on September 26 at Circle in the Square Theatre.

Moreover, the season includes the Broadway debut of Nicole Scherzinger as Norma Desmond in ‘Sunset Boulevard,’ starting previews on September 28 at St. James Theatre. Scherzinger previously received critical acclaim for this role in the West End.

Fans of ‘Death Becomes Her’ can look forward to Megan Hilty and Michelle Williams returning to Broadway in a musical adaptation of the 1992 fantasy comedy. Previews begin on October 23 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theatre.

Lastly, Audra McDonald will lead the new revival of ‘Gypsy,’ directed by George C. Wolfe. This production, beginning previews on November 21 at Majestic Theatre, marks a historic moment as McDonald becomes the first Black woman to portray the iconic role of Rose.
